Hammed is a traditional farmer, he owns large farm in the south of Sanaa Bani Mattar region. He was excited to try the new drying beds our friend Hussein has provided this harvest. He hired 20 pickers, who can normally finish picking in 2 to 3 weeks. But Hussein has agreed to pay them their daily fees for as long as it takes on one condition - they only pick fully riped cherries. It took around 10 weeks to pick them all, which translates to more costs, but much better quality.
Coffee was picked in the farmers houses and put directly in GrainPro bags with tags, they transferred the coffee to a small modern mill in Sana'a and processed each bag separately.
All neighbor farmer are willing to participate in the new program next season because they feel rewarded by both the improved salary and better feedback.
