品種小知識
埃塞俄比亞作為阿拉比卡咖啡的發源地，擁有上千種野生咖啡品種，至今仍然未被全數發掘辨識。相信大家很常見到在埃塞俄比亞咖啡豆包裝上，品種一欄標示了「Heirloom」，其實Heirloom代表的是混合起來的豆種，多被稱為埃塞俄比亞原生種(或古優品種)，並非指單一品種的名稱(如Geisha、Bourbon、Castillo、SL28等)。
 
會這樣分類的原因要歸究於埃國的咖啡產銷制度，以往咖啡小農們會把採收好的咖啡果送到就近的處理廠，再由處理廠混合，然後統一進行發酵、去皮、打果肉、洗去果膠、乾燥等步驟，這些處理廠大多以合作社的形式運作，以往只懂埋頭種植的小農們難以辨識每棵咖啡樹的確實品種，所以多年來只以Heirloom(指原生種)作稱呼。
 
這種做法直至1970年，在咖啡豆炭疽病(簡稱CBD)肆虐非洲咖啡產區後改變。為減免CBD對埃國的咖啡產能及品質的影響，該國的吉馬農業研究中心(簡稱JARC)採集了當地600多個咖啡品種逐一研究及測試，最後找出了10多款抗病性較高且風味優良的單一咖啡品種。包括了我們今日在豆包裝上看到了74110、74112 及74158，其中74指的是年份， 110及112 等則為品種編號。
